Based in Burgundy, France, saxophonist Sébastien Trognon has spent more than two decades developing a career at the crossroads of jazz, jazz-rock, improvisation, popular music, and studio work. Primarily a tenor saxophonist, he also plays alto and soprano saxophone, flute, clarinet, and, depending on the project, keyboards. This versatility has led him to work in a wide range of musical settings, from jazz and blues to large ensembles, touring, and studio recording. A significant chapter of his career came with Patrick Forgas’ Forgas Band Phenomena, with whom he performed in France and Seoul, appeared on the album Axis of Madness (Cuneiform Records, 2009), and performed at the NEARFest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He has also been a member of The Maynard Project, a tribute to legendary trumpeter and bandleader Maynard Ferguson.
Alongside his work as a performer, Sébastien has maintained an extensive career as a stage and studio musician, notably collaborating with composer Pierre Lange on numerous recording and audiovisual productions. More recently, he joined Lange’s trio from Nantes to expand the Urban Stories project into a quartet, resulting in the album Néons, released in 2020. His experience has also led him to perform and tour with numerous French artists in both France and internationally. As an educator, he teaches saxophone and flute, sharing his experience of live performance, section playing, and collective improvisation with his students. His first album as a quartet, Apple Core, is scheduled for release in 2027.
